Welcome to Balanced Bear Bookkeeping's blog page, where we share tips, insights, and news about bookkeeping, accounting, and financial management. Our goal is to help small business owners and entrepreneurs stay on top of their finances and make informed decisions for their businesses.

Owning more than one business can mean more opportunities, but it also means more financial records to manage. We have helped business owners organize their bookkeeping when transactions, accounts, and expenses start becoming difficult to keep straight across multiple businesses.
If you own more than one business, here are a few ways to keep your bookkeeping organized:
Keep each business separate
Each business should have its own bookkeeping records. Avoid combining income and expenses from different businesses into one set of books.
Use separate bank accounts and credit cards
Have dedicated business bank accounts and credit cards for each business. This makes it much easier to see which transactions belong to which company.
Avoid paying one business’s expenses with another business’s account
If Business A has a software bill, try not to pay it from Business B’s bank account. Mixing payments can create extra bookkeeping work and make your financial reports harder to understand.
Track shared expenses carefully
Some expenses may benefit more than one business. For example, you may share office space or certain software. Keep records showing how those expenses were divided between the businesses.
Reconcile each business separately
Regularly compare each business’s bookkeeping records with its bank and credit card statements. This helps catch missing, duplicate, or incorrectly recorded transactions.
Review financial reports for each business
Look at the income, expenses, and profit for each business individually. One business may be performing well while another needs attention, and combining the numbers can make that difficult to see.
Managing multiple businesses does not have to mean managing messy books. Keeping each business organized and separate gives you a clearer picture of how each one is performing and makes it easier to make informed financial decisions.
